Winter seemed to finally be giving us a break!! So Jon and I went for a road trip. First stop was Rt 66 in West Lafayette for breakfast. Jon LOVES their omelets and the people who work there make it a great down home diner. After breakfast it was on to Jackson Center, Ohio. Jackson Center is home to the Airstream factory. We highly recommend their factory tour. You are right there on the shop floor as the trailers are being hand built. Don and Gary, the tour guides, are excellent and between them they have worked for Airstream for over 80 years. This was a special trip for us because we were there to see our Flying Cloud Bambi being built. Yes, we are taking it on the road and will be RVing on the weekends. It will be fun camping, enjoying a fire and glass of wine at the end of a day of exploring.
On our way home we stopped in New Bremen, Ohio. This is a great little town. New Bremen is home to the Bicycle Museum of America. Some of the bikes they have are made of wood, some are one of a kind and some are works of art. It is a private collection of one person and he’s sharing this extraordinary gathering of over 800 bicycles to the public. Located in a large historic building downtown, it contains some of the earliest known bicycles to present day special editions. This is a must see for any bicycling enthuiast or for those who enjoy mechanical art.
Next door to the Bicycle Museum is LaPiazza. It has great Italian food and a historic flair. Jon had a meatball sandwich and I had a pizza and it was all great.
